Wondering Why I’m Here

Written in February 1994 in Edmonton, Alberta
Coffee cup this morning, don’t do much for me oh no
And our conversation just left me feeling low
I know where I am
But then why do I feel so lost
Too busy chasing dreams and forgot all about the cost
I can’t get across

I don’t know how I ended up on the road I’m on
It started all so innocent before I knew I was wrong
I was just young and foolish but then again, man, weren’t we all
The information was useless
So I left it all in the hall

And I’m wondering why I’m here
I’m wondering why I’m here
Looking for a reason but there ain’t no answer clear
It just leaves me wondering why I’m here

Wondering why I’m here
I’m wondering why I’m here
Looking at the stranger staring back at me in the mirror
It just leaves me wondering why I’m here

Well there ain’t no point in talking when there’s nothing nobody could say
And besides, we’ve said it all before anyway
Now there ain’t no conclusions,
Just all these intrusions tonight
Even though it’s long distance
Pardon my insistence
But tell me everything is gonna be alright

And I’m wondering why I’m here
I’m wondering why I’m here
Looking for a reason but there ain’t no answer clear
It just leaves me wondering why I’m here

Wondering why I’m here
I’m wondering why I’m here
Looking at the stranger staring back at me in the mirror
It just leaves me wondering why I’m here
