Good Intentions

Written in May of 1993 in Dallas, Texas

I’ve just been sitting here alone too much time to think
Sometimes I swear my sanity is right on the brink
Of combustion
Destruction
One foot from ruin
I lie awake at night and wonder just what I’m doing

There ain’t no one coming here ever gonna know my name
Ain’t no one coming here, seeing me and all my shame
I’ve been running like a fool on this old treadmill
I make it to the top
Then slide on back down the hill

They say that good intentions pave the road to hell
I can’t believe the complications I’ve made for myself
I can see my destination but there’s no end that I can tell
They say that good intentions pave the road straight to hell

Well jump back, Kerouac, he ain’t got nothing on me
I don’t wanna hear it, “Free spirit, is the only way to be”
I mean, it’s fine most the time
But right now it’s wearing thin
I’ve been everywhere but I can’t tell you where I am

They say that good intentions pave the road to hell
I can’t believe the complications I’ve made for myself
I can see my destination but there’s no end that I can tell
They say that good intentions pave the road straight to hell

Well the years burn on like a cigarette
I don’t know what I want so I take what I can get
Sometimes I feel I’m running, running from myself
And they say that good intentions pave the road straight to hell

They say that good intentions pave the road to hell
I can’t believe the complications I’ve made for myself
I can see my destination but there’s no end that I can tell
They say that good intentions pave the road straight to hell
