After “Fools For The Radio” was released in September of 2001 the band kind of went through a series of kicks in the balls and in March of 2002 I decided that I needed a break. I wasn’t sure how long of a break I needed but all I knew was that I needed one… desperately. In late May of 2002 we went in the studio to record “Simplify, too”. Like “Simplify”, we recorded it fast. This time it took us two days to record. I didn’t know what I was gonna do with the album but I knew I’d do something with it somewhere down the road. I got married in June of that year and we continued to do shows through till October 25, 2002. At this point my sails weren’t tied down. I was drifting and I didn’t know what my next move would be. In January of 2003 I decided I should put out the collection of songs we’d recorded the previous May. For some reason the title “Simplify, too” didn’t work for me anymore. It was my first record on my own. It was our “Last Waltz” but I felt like I had to move on. The guys had; they now called themselves the Populars and were working on their first album. I was now sitting at the table by myself. Then the title of a song on the album started to make more sense as an album title. “Table For One” is one of my favourites.
