In November of ’98 we went in the studio to record some new songs I’d been working on. “Song And Dance, Man” had been out for about a year and it was about time to start thinking about a new album, or so I thought. As luck would have it the “Song And Dance, Man” tour ended up running over 3 years and about 750 shows. Somehow time got away from us and the next thing I knew it was mid 2000 and we still didn’t have an album of new material. I had all the songs from the “Steel Belted” sessions in ’98 and the song “Steel Belted Radio” had turned into a fan favourite at shows though it wasn’t available on disc yet. But over the preceding year and a half I had written another album of new material and I was really excited about these new songs and couldn’t imagine putting the songs from the “Steel Belted” sessions on the new album. They just didn’t have the same “Je ne sais quoi”. But I didn’t want to let those “Steel Belted” songs die on the vine and the thought of going 3 and half or 4 years between releases made me ill. So I decided to go in the studio and finish up or “polish up” what we’d started back in November of ’98. We put out the album in August of 2000 and it bought us some time to work on the new album not too mention gave us something new to sell at shows.

Steel Belted Radio was the first song I’ve heard by Mike Plume. I saw the video on CMT. It was a morning I was feeling sad and sorry for myself. I instantly fell in love with this song and I found a copy of the song on the internet and downloaded it. I put it in all my playlists. The song always brightened my spirits.
Thankyou for the wonderful song Mike.
